TEGAN PAINTER's Flat Stanley visits the PENNSYLVANIA WILDS!!!

Flat Stanley arrived in New Philadelphia,PA just in time for a trip to our cabin in the mountains of North Central PA. He hopped into our 4x4 truck and headed out on a four hour trip through the Pennsylvania Wilds.Flat Stanley was busy looking for whitetail deer, elk and other wildlife and just enjoying the view of the mountains. When we arrived at our cabin he quickly took one of the top bunks. After settling in Flat Stanley went fly fishing on the Sinnemahoning Creek. He was so lucky..He caught two rainbow trout using dry flies.Flat Stanley put the fish back in the stream because it was a "catch & release" area. On our way back to the cabin, we stopped at a wildlife viewing area. Looking through binoculars, Flat Stanley saw 5  bull(male) elk.We explained to Flat Stanley that only male elk have antlers and they shed and grow a new set every year. Their new antlers are covered with fuzzy skin called velvet. The antlers harden by late summer and the velvet peels away. A set of antlers on a mature bull can weigh up to 40 pounds.  Across the field there were 9 whitetail deer.. The next night a black bear came into the backyard of our cabin. Flat Stanley looked out the window for a long time, watching as the bear was busy eating .He was so amazed and excited Flat Stanley had a difficult time falling off to sleep. The following morning Flat Stanley wanted to go on a hike. We walked a trail through the hardwood forest enjoying the fresh mountain air and looking for wildlife.

.Our wonderful trip with Flat Stanley has come to an end. We had an extraordinary outdoor adventure in Pennsylvania. An experience Flat Stanley will never forget. Photos, maps and  information will be coming to your school .Enjoy
